Sumatera Barat Province Poverty Profile September 2024

Abstract

In September 2024, the number of poor people (people with per capita expenditure per month below the Poverty Line) in Sumatera Barat Province reached 315.43 thousand people (5.42 percent), a decrease of 30.30 thousand people compared to the condition in March 2024 which amounting to 345.73 thousand people. The percentage of poor people in urban areas in March 2024 was 4.72 percent, decreasing to 4.16 percent in September 2024. Meanwhile, the percentage of poor people in rural areas in March 2024 was 7.28 percent, decreasing to 6.79 percent in September 2024.
  • During the period March 2024–September 2024, the number of poor people in urban areas fell by 13.43 thousand people (from 139.12 thousand people in September 2024 to 125.69 thousand people in September 2024), while in the same period the number of poor people in rural areas decreased by 16.87 thousand people (from 206.62 thousand people in March 2024 to 189.75 thousand people in September 2024).
  • The role of food commodities on the Poverty Line is much greater than the role of non-food commodities. Food Poverty Line Contribution to the Poverty Line in September 2024 was recorded at 75.92 percent.
  • The three types of food commodities that have the greatest influence on the Poverty Line value are rice, filter clove cigarettes, red chilies (in urban and rural areas). Meanwhile, the five most dominant non-food commodities are housing costs, petrol, electricity, education and toiletries.
